Woke up this morning to a clear blue sky in Yellowstone, unfortunately we were trying to get out as early as possible and didn't get to enjoy it. Did make the drive out really pretty, though. We saw tons of deer and even some wild turkeys crossing the road. Combination of chocolate milk breakfast (no food) and windy roads resulted in Gabby throwing up in the RV about an hour into the drive. I'm just not good with that... thankfully, Gus is. The AAA Trip Tik led us astray after leaving Yellowstone. It led us through Big Horn in an RV to 9000 ft elevation, switchbacks and ultimately several unpaved sections due to construction. Dicey, to say the least.
Our destination was the KOA Kampground (again, with a K) in South Dakota, just a few miles from Mt. Rushmore. My expectations were low as KOA's typically aren't the greatest. As we're driving through the Black Hills of South Dakota in the middle of nowhere, sure that we're lost, we stumble upon the Kampground and it is amazing. This place is every kids dream -- horses, wagon rides, pools, water slide, and something called a jumping pillow that looks like a big bubble coming out of the ground that they jump around on. Surely it can't be safe, but it's really fun. We decided immediately that this place is too good to just stay 1 night, so I'm sad to say that we've cancelled our night at Laura Ingalls prairie and we're going to stay here in the Kampground for an extra night instead. I know many of you were looking forward to photos of Gus running through the prairie... I'll try to get some of him jumping on the "jumping pillow" instead!
Glad to be in SD.
